Gender in the Garden of Eden

Let’s explore the origins of human beings in the creation story, with an eye to gender roles and the relations set in motion between men and women (and?). Examining key phrases in the text and how they have been interpreted by traditional and modern commentators, we will try to discern whether the text is meant to be descriptive or prescriptive and how different interpretations have made an impact on gender in Jewish and other Biblically-based communities for millennia.
